The Women’s Situation Room

NUWODU joined a steering committee of 7 Women’s Rights Organizations that composed the Women’s Situation Room (WSR) 2020/21 and promoted the full and active participation of women and youth with disabilities in peaceful electoral processes in Uganda.

Executive Directors and Executive Secretaries of Representative Organisations on the WSR

First implemented in the 2016 Presidential elections in Uganda, and with the guidance of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325, the Women’s Situation Room built the capacity of women and youth with disabilities of Koboko in peace building for early detection, prevention, and response to political and electoral violence.

The WSR Uganda 2021 also strengthened and refined the WSR as a mechanism for ensuring peace in African elections.

The Women’s Situation Room was founded by the Angie Brooks International Centre in Liberia to promote the participation of women in peace building. The mechanism is in line with the UNSCR 1325 which stresses the importance of women’s equal participation and full involvement in all efforts for the maintenance and promotion of peace and security.

It was hosted by Uganda Women’s Network with its Secretariat at the Women’s International Peace Centre.
