Women led organizations like NUWODU exhibited commendable leadership during the outbreak of the pandemic and post COVID-19. With support from her partners like UNTRUSTFUND, BRAC Uganda and Aga Khan Foundation, NUWODU tried to mitigate the socio-economic impact of COVID-19 on women and girls with disabilities in some of her districts of operations and those outside her coverage.

Women with disabilities received seed grants to boost their Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) groups whereas women with disabilities living with HIV/AIDS received monetary assistance to rejuvenate their livelihood activities and reduce on the economic effects of the pandemic.

NUWODU and her partners also implemented early action and anticipatory activities such as immediate food distribution; provision of hygiene materials such as jerrycans and soap to safeguard women and girls with disabilities from contracting the virus.

In acknowledgment of both short-term and long-term consequences of Gender Based Violence, functional referral networks were created to ease access to justice for women and girls with disabilities that suffered violence during the pandemic.
